Getting Started
First and foremost we would like to thank you for becoming part of
this global initiative. YOU will be one of the key forces in helping
to bridge the gaps of communication amongst all youth across the
globe.  YOU by yourself or YOU with a small TEAM can do this and where
going to show you how. With a very easy step by step process.  It just
requires a little effort on your part.
before the step by step lets briefly outline what needs to be done...

Print all attachment documents.
"Survey sheet" make several copies
"Waiver" make at least 50 copies
Ads for posting (optional).

Find a camcorder.
Find free condoms to give out during your shoot and survey.
pick key locations to shoot in your city. Your target group is youth.
Pick obvious places youth will be i.e. downtown the mall etc.
(Remember absolutely positively no children under 16, they need
parental consent.)

Put out our generic pre-made ads. Post ads up in Universities,
University newspapers, small local newspapers. Your objective is to
basically get some media attention on a small or large its up to
you... Remember one very important thing YOU are responsible for
setting up a time and meeting place for people to say CONDOM. (
setting up a meeting place is again optional but it does make it
easier when you have people coming to you!)

Step 1: Resources
You might be saying to yourself. "How am I going to get a
camcorder?" EASY! Who's willing to help...
Friends and Family check your already existing network.
Local NGO (Non Governmental Organizations) best bet is to contact
those that are already working in the field of HIV and AIDS. (Make
sure to hit up these organizations for free condoms to give away while
filming and doing your survey... its NOT MANDATORY to give out condoms
it just gives a little incentive for people to want to say condom or
do your survey.)

Local High School or Universities.  Majority of schools & Universities
in big cities world wide have a camcorder they can give out on
consignment/loan or students they can lend you for a day to achieve
your end result.
(There is a letter we have created so all you have to do is copy paste
and forward it off to several NGO's, High Schools and Universities...
The squeaky wheel gets the grease make sure you follow up with your
contacts, be persistent and you will receive results GUARANTEED.)

Step 2: Planning
Now that you have your camcorder and condoms ( condoms
optional) you are ready to hit the streets, but first... Set UP a
date, time, and place or places to meet to do the shoot ( make a list
of places easy that are easy to get to.).  Ideally places where people
don't have to travel far.  Pick familiar hang outs i.e University
Campus, The Mall etc...

Step 3: Action
Your list is complete OR YOU'VE DECIDED WHERE YOU WANT TO MEET
AND SHOOT.  Now again we've tried to make this as easy as possible for
you to do.  Hence why we've created a generic ad for you to copy and
poster around Universities, forward the ad to the University newspaper
and also small local newspaper companies.  Another way to get people
to come out is by getting university or college radio stations to
simply state the time and place to meet and and a little about the
cause. Weekends are typically the best time to get people to come out.
Make sure to ALWAYS INCLUDE YOUR CONTACT INFO, you will also have your own saycondom.org email address for people to contact you. This way you have an idea what to prepare for and its more professional.

Step 4: The Shoot
You've set your meeting place and time. The ads are out you've
gotten a great response via email now...

THE SHOOT

use a separate microphone if possible.
if no microphone...
when using the camcorder microphone shoot as close as possible to the
person approximately 3 - 4 feet should be good and try to shoot away
from loud sound sources traffic, construction etc.
put your subject in a position that the light would be shinning on their face.
if not possible make sure the sun is not shinning strongly in the
background and not on the back of your persons.
overcast/cloudy days you can shoot anywhere...
KEY THING to remember you don' have to film people saying condom  you
can film an ear, mouth, hand, or something while the person says
condom. ( be creative and for a better idea reference our India say
condom video)

Try to pick a variety of backgrounds within the area you've chosen to
shoot variety is good.

Don't only get people to say condom once change your camera angle and
view and get them to repeat the word condom over and over make them
laugh.

Get groups of people to say it together again be creative.

Most Importantly have fun their is no pressure just have a laugh and
enjoy. Others feed off of positivity so try to keep and remain
positive even if someone becomes negative with you.

5. If you choose just to go crazy and hit the streets like we did with
0 ads and just a whole lot of heart here are some simple tips for your
pitch and how to approach remember always be nice and smile make it
look like your having fun and trust me people will come to you or at
least be more then willing to help.
-pick key locations to shoot in your city where youth (ages 16-30) are
going to be. Remember absolutely positively no children under 16, they
may need parental consent to be shot on film.
-while filming all you have to say is "Hi I am/(We are) putting
together a short film for the 2008 World AIDS Conference. It is apart
of a global initiative to say "condom", the only form of prevention we
have next to abstinence.  Do you think you can say condom on camera
for us."
If they ask what do I get reassure them by saying
"you get to become one of the first people to be apart of a real
global community. Our goal is to bridge the gaps of communication and
this is the first step we are taking toward positive change. HIV does
not discriminate and neither should we." "If your an advocate for
positive change help us out"
Usually its really easy and the first part seals the deal....
After they say CONDOM. Ask if they can sign the waiver and give them a
copy for themselves.
